Introducing Cora, a natural fiber art doll.
We spent the morning going through all her little clothes, trying to decide what to wear. Being the smart cookie that she is, she asked to check the weather apps. I mean! When did the dolls get this tech-savvy?
It was prophesied a scorcher of a day so naturally we went for something breezy. Sandals were nowhere to be found. Cora started getting impatient and she decided to go outside barefoot and all.
She walked straight to the hydrangea forest that graces the view right off my doll studio. We’ve had many chats about these gigantic flowers. She asked if they were as smelly as the roses I bring every now and then. She likes to play with the fallen petals over the cutting table.
Cora, I should warn, asks many questions. But I am used to it so it’s all good with me.
We decided to play a little with the puffy flowers, use them as a nice floral bed and watch the clouds up high as they moved slowly across the bright blue sky. We decided to count them and to name all the things we love about summer.
While you all know I am the most devoted Autumn Worshipper, I have to confess that summers are growing on me. There’s something to be said for the abundance of flowers of all colours and flavours: the intoxicating scent of roses, the sway of spindly queen anne’s lace, the voracity of morning flory engulfing everything it can, chicory adorning the roads sharing its bed with the beauty of oats gone to seed, blackberries getting fatter by the hour, cheerful poppies amongst a sea of cow parsley, the hibiscus running marathons against the bouganvillea…summer is pretty good.
The figs are getting fatter and the little olives are starting to peek under the bushy branches. Lemons keep dropping left, right and centre. Perhaps it’s time to be brave and we attempt some summer baking, Lord help us!
Miss Cora is wearing a breeze pinafore. I believe she chose the perfect print and the added pink metal buttons are like the cherry on the top.
She also has a lovely long cotton skirt trimmed in eyelet lace. Like I said, her shoes were nowhere to be found. But don’t worry, they are here somewhere!
So for now we are going back inside, looking for her shoes and putting the finishing details in her clothes.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this short introduction with Miss Cora and that her photos bring you a little bit of both: a summer respite and more inspiration.
Enjoy.
