Autumn Dolls: Tiny and Caramel, natural fiber art dolls ready to play
Autumn is here and the sweetest sister dolls are enjoying themselves in the fallen leaves.
Tiny and her sister Caramel were born under gusty winds and so they are normally inclined to spend as much time outside when the North Wind is blowing. They love to see the leaves high up in the air, and witness tree branches and all manner of bushes dancing to its tune.
Mother made sure they went outside to play in very warm and comfortable clothing. She suggested cardigans but the girls replied that it made them too hot, especially when swinging from tree branch to tree branch. Mother refused to hear more.
The girls chose their favourite tshirts. The ones they helped dye with birch bark on a sunny summer day. They love flowers and faded pinks.
Caramel wanted her overalls made with alpaca and wool, because alpacas are her favourite animals. There is a nearby farmer who raises alpacas and Caramel is always so excited to go and visit and pet them. They are quite dusty so it took some convincing to explain to her how yarn is made from their fiber. She loves her overalls and feels very comfy when she wears them.
“They make my legs happy” she told me.
Tiny is a bit more of a fibre-connoisseur so she chose the hardwearing wool from Icelandic sheep. Mother thought it would make her itchy but she seems not to be bothered one bit. She loves her off-white overalls, because they catch all the fireweed and dandelion seeds, she says.
Mother cannot understand how this is an advantage, but she knows little of seed dispersal.
The girls spend hours and hours outside, until their cheeks are so flushed red from exposure Mother fears for their skin health. She tries to bribe them to come inside, with talk of warm scones and hot chocolate.
Pray you, who can resist such a bribe? Not these two, that’s for sure.
They like smooshy peas, butternut squash puree, sheperd’s pie and roasted beets. They also like mint tea, dandelion tea, rosehip tea and chamomile. But singles, not mixed.
They love to go early to bed, so they can rise first thing in the morning. Helmets on, overalls on, they head outside, until Mother has to bribe them again with warm food visions. It’s a never-ending cycle.
This most charming set of sisters are inspired by everything Fall. Perhaps you have witnessed my adoration of everything Autumn, it seems to run deep. I was born in October and the dolls born this month always have a special place in my heart.
Last year, Rye was my last doll of the year, also born in October. While this year there will be more dolls made, most of them are custom dolls so I won’t have another sweet little set to bring to you, except perhaps a set of Christmas dolls (if we are lucky!).
Caramel, the sassy brunette, already has a home but you can find Tiny, the mellow blonde, available for sale in my shop. Please visit this link>>>.
I hope they both have wonderful lives and that they bring memories of the beautiful Autumn that surrounded their early days. I shall come back later in November with a small batch of Wee Baby Deers and maybe some glimpses of my Christmas dolls, if I do manage to coerce them out of the fabric. I will also come and introduce you to all the pretty custom girls I am working on, so the blog will be full of wool children to meet. See you all soon!
