Merry, At Morning Time
It was a windy morning, with strong north winds battering the branches of the old birch tree. Merry woke up early enough to watch the sunrise, as is her wont.
I grabbed the heavy silver plated hair brush from the dresser. She sat at the edge of her still warm bed, wrapped herself in a multicolour patchwork quilt and looked through the barely opened curtains.
A drafty house makes for dancing lace curtains when Brother Wind visits the hamlet.
As the curtains danced, softly touching the wooden board floor, Merry sprang to life. I was brushing her hair and brought the basket of silk ribbons for her to choose from.
Which one do you want to wear today Merry? I asked while gently offering a fat grosgrain ribbon with cute picot edging.
She looked at me and then at the offering. Unsatisfied she rummaged through the basket. A navy blue one was her choice and a great one at that.
The wind quieted down and Merry started looking for Peggy. Her doll. I unearthed her from the linen sheets and gave her the doll.
These two are quite a handsome duo. Always together. I wonder what sort of adventures they will attempt today.
Merry decided to wear her cotton voile dress, her brown tights and her leather boots. Then she grabbed the ribbon and braided her hair.
Girls grow too quickly. This one is already braiding her own hair!
I insisted on a spot of breakfast before tackling the day and we all headed downstairs.
The day is looking promising.
Merry is a custom made fiber art doll. She is inspired by a beautiful book titled The Cottage at the End of the Lane by Elaine Mills.
Merry has her own little doll and a few friends that have been waiting here for her. They will all soon embark on the adventure of their lives, to meet their best friend and caretaker.
But not yet. Mischief afoot.
See you soon!
